"A Protest Song"
by Matt Sesow (2008)
18"x24", oil on stretched canvas

matt sesow original paintign

description, as told by matt sesow:

"with this painting i wanted to try juxtapose the singer, whom might be protesting something, but from a safe distance of actual violent resistance. he has a bunny on his guitar which symbolizes innocence.
also both his eyes are blue which i use to symbolize peace but also ignorance and because he is missing an orange eye, lacking the balance of violence or aggression. the severed hand of resistance symbolizes the 'truth' part of the painting. i oftentimes draw a simple lined figure in the background of my paintings that help give the viewer a better idea of what i am actually trying to portray, or what is the reality of the situation in the painting.
