# Matt Sesow

> Full-time self-taught American expressionist painter, based in Washington, DC. Born Omaha, Nebraska, September 10, 1966. Painting daily since 1994; more than 17,000 original paintings sold directly to collectors in over 40 countries, with no exclusive gallery representation. Work in six museum collections, including 26 paintings in the permanent collection of the American Visionary Art Museum. His painting "Dive Bomb" was issued as a United Nations postage stamp in 2013. On June 7, 1975, at age eight, he was struck by a landing airplane in Lancaster County, Nebraska and lost his dominant left hand; that event is the origin of his recurring iconography — the plane, the hand, the bunny, the trauma cup, the one-winged rising phoenix, the burning sun.
